How to enhance and revitalise natural curls
Those with curly hair of any type often do not know how to maintain or look after their natural hair texture. Do you find your hair to be frizzy or dry? Here are some ways to bring back your captivating curls!
The right shampoo and conditioner
One of the most common mistakes is using a shampoo or conditioner that is not suitable for your hair type. Products that contain sulphates can leave your hair damaged. When seeking that textured, defined curl, ensure that your shampoo and conditioner is sulphate-free and appropriate for your hair type.
Your towel could be damaging your hair more than you would think! Often for those with wavy or curly hair types, the harsh microfibres in regular towels break up and damage your curls. Instead, swap out your hair towels for an old cotton t-shirt which will be gentler to your hair!
Diffusers are a great way to dry your hair whilst eliminating frizz as they do not disrupt your hair’s natural curl pattern. Simply tilt your head and hold the diffuser at the root of your hair first, to fight frizz and add volume. Move the diffuser in small circular motions to help further define curls and work the hair.
Plopping is a great heat-free way of enhancing curls! Begin by nourishing your damp hair through applying curl-activating products. Lay a cotton t-shirt down in front of you, then gently lower your head and let your hair fall naturally into the shirt from ends to root. Tie the shirt to secure your hair and wait until dry to reveal revitalised curls!
Heat damage is the most common cause of dry and frizzy hair. Press pause on the hair straighteners to strengthen your curls and ensure you always use heat protectant products before applying heat to your hair.
Regular pillowcases can also be damaging to your hair as they are a leading cause of friction. Instead, opt for a silk pillowcase or invest in a hair wrap to protect your hair from nightly tosses and turns!
